We are proposing on a 5-year contract at Camp Pendleton, CA. and seek highly experienced, qualified employees to fill these positions. 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: I

Overview: This position is assigned responsibilities cover the installation, testing, repair and maintenance of high voltage electrical power controlling equipment and both overhead and underground power distribution lines. Must have knowledge of high voltage electrical principles, general mechanical skills and knowledge. Installs, replaces and/or repairs poles, cross-arms, transformer racks and hangers, insulators, breakers, fuses, primary and secondary conductors, switching equipment, brackets and braces, guy wires and anchors, meters, and distribution systems to ensure the proper operation of substations and their electrical power controls and apparatus. Installs street and airfield lighting circuits, “lamps” and related hardware, and power supplies for traffic controls and other special purpose electrical uses; responds to power outages or interruptions; performs load tests on transformers; operates motor vehicles, to include related power equipment such as power lifts, winches, aerial booms, power take-offs, ditching equipment, post hole diggers, etc.; ensures the compliance with environmental protection precautions prescribed for this occupation, to include proper disposal of, cross-arms, poles, insulators, and other high voltage electrical components; inspects, test, maintains, repairs, and replaces all indoor lighting fixtures, outdoor lights affixed to buildings, lighting controls, lighting timers, emergency lights, dimmers, and hard-wired remote control systems; inspects, test, maintains, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment, including motors, emergency generators, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, relays, magnetic starters, variable frequency drives, public address and class bell systems, and electric heating systems such as radiant and resistance heat, panel boards, and transformers; inspects, test, maintains, repairs, and replaces wiring circuits, including cable, wire, conduit, duck bank, cable trays, circuit breaker panels (including all components), fuses and switches; performs minor installation or modification work on electrical systems, including planning the work; estimating and arranging the materials, supplies and equipment required; coordinates with other trades; inspects work site for planned work’s impact on associated trades and professionals (e.g. safety or electrical engineer) and consults with others to ensure safety and to prevent equipment outages; performs regular duties as assigned not to include inherently governmental functions. The work may require moderately heavy physical effort and considerable agility and dexterity in working in awkward and hard to reach places and frequently in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time, frequently in aerial bucket trucks at heights up to 100 ft.  Requires lifting, carrying, and positioning items weighing up to 50 lbs.  Must have knowledge of electrical principles and their application to the maintenance, repair, replacement, and installation of electrical distribution systems and equipment; knowledge of the application and use of testing equipment used in checking, testing, and analyzing electrical systems and equipment such as ammeter, oscilloscope, voltage tester, phase and rotation tester, and multi-meter; knowledge of codes (e.g. National Electrical Code) related to installation or renovation of building wiring, lighting, and power distribution systems in the various types of spaces found on higher education campuses; knowledge of the safety practices and procedures used around electricity, in dangerous situations such as confined spaces or high elevations, and in the use of chemicals; ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, charts, and technical instructions; ability to prepare comprehensive reports and to present facts clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to accurately maintain equipment inventory and history records; ability to apply electrical formulas and conversion tables to job requirements; ability to properly use hand tools and power equipment used in the trade and to make proper connections, including soldering and splicing wires; ability to individually lift a minimum of 50 lbs and to move and transport materials and equipment weighting in excess 200 lbs with assistance; ability to work in confined spaces and to work from ladders or elevated platforms. Safety glasses are furnished and required at all times while working.  Meters, drill motors, bits, tap, files, hacksaw blades, pipe wrenches over l4”, benders, hickeys, power operated tools and soldering equipment will be furnished. Must furnish own personal hand tools common to the electrical trade, and must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License.   A minimum of 2-5 years experience in H/V distribution and/or Sub-Station, 4 kv or higher is required.
