5-year contract at Camp Pendleton, CA. and seek highly experienced, qualified
employees to fill these positions.
JOB
FUNCTIONS: I
Overview: The Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy
equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy
loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial
tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load,
or move dirt, gravel, or other materials. Operator may read and interpret grade
and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency
repairs to equipment.
Receives assignments and prepares equipment for use; checks tires, lights, brakes, gas or fuel oil, water, lubrication and other checks as required; hooks up equipment and miscellaneous accessories; makes functional checks of accessories and equipment such as power take-off units, pumps, various types of braking systems, checks for worn cable, damaged blades, loose or bent parts, safety equipment, etc. before moving the vehicle. Must know how to lubricate all moving parts, fill and adjust oi1 and grease cups on all types of equipment operated and to make adjustments and minor repairs to component parts of gasoline or diesel powered engines; drive and operate tracked and wheeled tractors, both gasoline and diesel powered; perform excavation work with bulldozers, etc. to approximate grades. Individual must be capable of performing rigging pertaining to use of attachments and/or accessories, towing, moving, etc.; thoroughly familiar with the capabilities and characteristics of all tracked and wheeled tractors with accessories and attachments; and be familiar with all phases of cuts, fills, working with or without grade stakes, pioneering of roads, dams, levees, dikes, etc. Must obtain a Government Operator’s permit to drive and operate various types of engineering equipment and vehicles not exceeding 78,000 pounds gross vehicle weight. Performs other duties as assigned; must possess a valid California Drivers License and must obtain an U.S. Government operator’s permit to operate various types of engineering equipment and vehicles not exceeding 78,000 pounds GVW. A minimum of 5 years experience is required.
