5-year contract at Camp Pendleton, CA. and seek highly experienced, qualified
employees to fill these positions.
JOB
FUNCTIONS: I
Overview: The Pipefitter installs or repairs water,
steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefitting. Work involves most of the
following: laying out work and measuring to locate position of pipe from
drawings or other written specifications, cutting various sizes of pipe to
correct lengths with chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch or pipe-cutting
machines, threading pipe with stocks and dies. This person is responsible for
bending pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines, assembling pipe with
couplings and fastening pipe to hangers, making standard shop computations
relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required; and making standard
tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications. In general, the
work of the Pipefitter requires rounded training and experience usually
acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
The pipefitter may be required to coordinate work with
other repair trades, including schedule of work, arranging for temporary
services and scheduling utility outages for needed repairs and improvements;
oversee maintenance work in progress to verify conformance to scope of work and
to building codes; communicate with a customer friendly attitude to deal with
various staff members and tenant organizations for scheduling of work; perform
all maintenance specified by the database system; continually update
maintenance records to reflect new and inactivated equipment, and participate
in setting the maintenance requirements for new equipment; monitor the parts
inventory required for efficient maintenance and repair operations, and provide
ordering information and full details for parts required; respond to all
unscheduled work requests received or initiated by the department in a timely
fashion, with particular emphasis on safety, security or other urgent items;
maintain and repair all supply and drain piping and plumbing fixtures, to
include hot and cold-water, chilled water, heating hot water, steam, condensate
and drain piping and attached valves and fittings; repair
mechanical building components such as doors, latches, closures, ventilation
dampers, handrails, weather striping, compressed air
for shop equipment, etc.; other appropriate duties as assigned that fall under
the pipefitter specialty. Tasks may include basic carpentry or electrical work,
hanging and removing equipment, painting, welding, drain cleaning, and other
maintenance work. Must have the knowledge and skills to
perform as journeyman level workers with thorough knowledge of all aspects of
the pipefitter trade. May be required to perform work
from ladders and scaffolding at various heights and occasionally in hard to
reach places. Must possess a valid California state drivers license and be able to obtain a U.S. Government
operator’s permit to operate motor vehicles up to three tons. Working
conditions are considered in the evaluation of the job and do not meet criteria
for compensation by environmental or hazard pay. A minimum of 3 years
experience is required for this position.
