We are proposing on a 5-year contract at Camp Pendleton, CA. and seek highly experienced, qualified employees to fill these positions. 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS: I

Overview: The Plumber assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes, studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required, and sequence of installations. This worker inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe, and locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors. This worker cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools, cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe-threading machine, bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine, or by placing pipe over block and bending it by hand. The Plumber, Maintenance assembles and installs valves, pipefittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic. This person joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints, fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking, installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. This person repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains, and may weld holding fixtures to steel structural members.

 

Responsible for all maintenance, repair and replacement of building plumbing, water mains, service lines, sewage mains, sewage laterals and fuel gas system located in Camp Pendleton. Cuts, threads and reams pipe, ranging in size from ?" to 4" in diameter; operates power driven pipe threading machine, power driven sewer auger, portable pumps, air compressors, power driven abrasive cutter, drill press, grinding machines, asbestos cement pipe milling machines and portable drills; uses hand portable tools and equipment in the performance of the job including pipe wrench 6" to 48", pipe tong 12" to 48", yarning and caulking chisels, acetylene and propane torches, lead pots, hammer, auger bits, brace, level, basin wrench, square, tape, joint runner, compass saw, hacksaw, plumb bob, asbestos cement pipe milling machine, pipe cutter, hydraulic pipe cutter, pipe tapping machine, pipe dies, pipe reamer, pipe taps and other necessary tools; installs and repairs pipes made of water-cast iron, steel, wrought iron, asbestos cement, copper and plastic, sewage-cast iron soil, vitrified clay, concrete and Orangeburg; installs fittings for water mains and service valves, ?", 11½ degree - 22½ degrees, 45 degrees- 60 degrees, - 90 degree bends, tees, repair clamps, flex couplings and dielectric unions; installs grease traps, water heaters, lavatories, bath tubs, sinks, closet bowls, drinking fountains, service sinks, floor drains, urinals, garbage disposals, dental and other special fixtures when required; installs hot and cold water piping systems in all types of buildings using copper and wrought iron pipe; installs water mains and sewer lines using cement or lead joints, plastic pipe compound for plastic pipe, septic tanks and leach lines; performs maintenance and repair of all fixtures and piping systems throughout the base; rods sewer lines; unstops drain lines; checks, locates and repairs water mains and fire hydrant valves; works in a shop repairing tools and equipment; prefabricates plumbing and piping. Must have Journeymen experience in plumbing and pipefitting, and must have the knowledge and skills to perform all aspects of work related to plumbing and water and sewage system. Must be trained in the field of water works as well as plumbing; able to install and maintain natural and LPG fuel gas systems; work from blueprints and drawings, laying out and fabricating jobs without drawings; follow proper grade for drainage lines and circulating hot water systems, proper heights and distances required on water supply and drainage pipes, proper size and placing of vents, and the correct size and placement of traps on fixtures; solder copper pipe and fittings using solder and flux; install water mains of cast iron, asbestos cement pipe, concrete cylinder, steel, standard, plastic, vitrified clay, concrete, soil and valves size ?" to 18", pipe fittings ?" to 18"; repair water mains, sewer mains and laterals; operate power machines and sewer rodding equipment; unstop sewer and drain lines; know where to install air vents, siphon breakers, relief lines, valves, pressure regulating valves and make emergency repair to all plumbing, water and sewage systems. Must possess a valid California Drivers License and must be able to obtain a U. S. Government operator's permit to operate a truck up to 3 ton. Responsible for performing work in a safe manner, adhering to all safety regulations, is responsible for assigned shop tools and equipment, and is required to furnish own tools of the trade. Responsible for the proper care and cleanliness vehicles and equipment assigned, for the completion of each job assignment, and for the clean up after job is completed. Must maintain accurate records of time and materials expended on each job and complete daily reports as necessary. May be required to lift and carry weight up to 45 pounds for short distances. May be required to perform work from ladders and scaffolding at various heights. Must have normal vision and hearing with or without corrective devices, depth perception and the ability to distinguish basic color to differentiate color-coded valves, etc. Works on assigned shifts and may be subject to call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Safety glasses will be furnished when required. Other protective equipment mush as gloves, toe-guards, hats, goggles, protective suits and books will be furnished when necessary. All special tools such as acetylene and propane torches, lead pots, pipe dies, pipe wrenches 18" to 48", power vises and power tools with be furnished as required. A minimum of 4 years of experience is required for this position.
